Designart Tokyo: An Exhibition on the Dialogue Between Indoor and Outdoor in the New Paola Lenti Showroom

From October 20th to 29th, during Designart Tokyo, Paola Lenti opens the doors of its new flagship store in Japan. Officially opening early next year in the Azabudai Hills residential district, this venue will be the stage for “Outside Inside,” a solo exhibition by the French-Japanese artist Hugo Yoshikawa, curated by Rikka Gallery.

Yoshikawa grew up between Paris, Tokyo, Bangkok and New York, and graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in London. His artistic muse is nature, and he skillfully transfers the wonder of the plant world into domestic settings. In his illustrated tables, trees and plants infiltrate our homes, sending roots between chairs, tables, and rugs, while flowers and leaves meld with everyday objects. The result is a whimsical concept of home where the boundaries between indoor and outdoor blur.

This artistic vision harmonizes seamlessly with Paola Lenti’s living philosophy, which sees indoor and outdoor spaces as part of a unified whole. Within this unicum, objects, accessories, and architecture harmoniously coexist with each other and the surrounding environment.

Within the new Paola Lenti flagship store, alongside Yoshikawa’s artwork, you’ll discover products directly inspired by nature’s ever-changing and unpredictable colours. Among these, the Sciara tables stand out with their lava and glass tops that mimic the intricate patterns of leaves. You’ll also find Bruco, seating pieces designed by the Campana Brothers, featuring handmade coverings that evoke the lush textures of seaweed and the tranquil seabed.

The Azabudai Hills district, home to the showroom, is a fresh residential neighborhood abounding with art galleries, museums, cultural centers, and a deep commitment to sustainability. Here, buildings are embraced by ample green spaces, and their rooftops flourish with vibrant vegetation.

Now in its seventh edition, Designart Tokyo is one of Japan’s premier events dedicated to design and art. This year’s exhibition encompasses 83 locations, featuring a total of 108 exhibitions attended by artists from around the globe and some of the most renowned brands in Italian design.
